Dr. Ben Graffam and Karen Hairston concluded the last of the
2007 Fall Regionals in
Dr. Graffam’s presentation provided examples to assist with
the understanding of some specific elements of the gifted
frameworks for classroom implementation. Additionally,
examples were provided to describe the hierarchy of
assessment from the “Know”, “Understand”, “Perform” and
“Accomplish” levels of the frameworks and strategies which
support understanding of the document were shared.
This presentation also stressed the versatility of the
frameworks. For teachers the frameworks can drive the
development of a unit of study and help evaluate the
academic progress of an individual student or class of
students. For students who are gifted the frameworks can be
used as a rubric to gage their personal and academic
development as life long learners.
Based on the positive response to Dr. Graffam’s presentation
and the request for additional training from the district
gifted coordinators, WOGI is developing an application for
districts to complete if there is interest in piloting the
frameworks in their district. If interested, please
